Description
Not just riding — caring. The Horseback Helpers Certification teaches campers the full picture of working with horses: grooming, tacking up, cool-down, and stall care. Campers who complete the program earn their official Horseback Helper credential, a keepsake certificate, and a special lanyard pin recognized across Autumn’s Gate programs.
Why We Do It
Horses teach things no classroom can. Responsibility, patience, empathy, and the confidence that comes from earning an animal’s trust are life skills, not just camp memories. The Horseback Helpers program was built so that campers who feel the connection can go deeper than a weekly ride — the bridge between “I rode a horse” and “I know how to care for one.”
What Your Kid Gets
– Guided instruction in horse grooming, tacking, and post-ride care from certified equestrian staff
– Supervised stall and paddock time — real barn work, not just watching
– An official Horseback Helper Certificate signed by our Lead Equestrian Director
– A collectible lanyard pin worn with pride for the rest of the session
– Early-access priority for the weekly trail ride slot (when available)
How It Works
Open to any camper regardless of riding experience — curiosity and enthusiasm are the only requirements. Campers join a small-group certification track (max 6 per cohort) running across three designated sessions during the week. A hands-on assessment in the final session determines certification. Campers who pass receive their certificate at Friday’s closing circle.
